Why your genes aren't definitive when it comes to obesity...

It showed that people who did an hour or more of moderate to vigorous exercise per week, and had a genetic variation for obesity, were 27% less likely to become obese than less active people who had the same gene.

A small study from the University of Minnesota found that people who started a weight loss programme with higher levels of vitamin D lost more weight than those with "insufficient" levels of the nutrient.

Other research shows that vitamin D increases the effectiveness of leptin, a hormone that tells your brain you're full and don't need to eat more.
