We’re already familiar with the heart health benefits of almonds...

Most of us are already aware that almonds are great for heart health. To recap, the antioxidants in these nuts help raise levels of HDL cholesterol (the good type) while lowering LDL cholesterol (the bad type). They’re also filled with monounsaturated fats that can reduce risk of heart disease even further.
As a bonus, almonds help control blood sugar after meals and protect against type 2 diabetes. Now, let’s take a look at how they help build up muscle...

Almonds help build up muscle by providing more energy and stronger muscles

Believe it or not, a handful of almonds contains more protein than an egg. It also contains energy-boosting copper and manganese, which limits the free radicals that can hinder the dynamos that power our cells, known as mitochondria.
Similarly, almonds are a top source of vitamin B2, or riboglavin, which is a key nutrient for producing oxygen-based energy in the body, according to Nancy Clark, author of Sports Nutrition Guidebook.
Almonds may even promote fat burn. While it’s true that these nuts are high in calories, Clark says eating a lot of anything is going to lead to weight gain and that there’s “ no research to back up that almonds are fattening”.
In fact, one study published in the International Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders found that overweight and obese people on a low-calorie, almond-enriched diet had a 56% greater reduction in body fat compared with those ate a low-calorie, high-carb diet.
If you’re looking to build up muscle and slim down simultaneously, Clark suggests eating a handful of raw almonds once a day.
