Did you know that bad oral hygiene can lead to heart disease, memory loss and oral diseases? You may think that brushing your teeth twice a day is enough to keep those nasties at bay, but it's a little more complicated than that. Read on to find out how to keep your mouth clean and protect your health…
Do you brush your teeth AFTER breakfast?
If we told you that you’re supposed to brush your teeth immediately after you wake up – would this surprise you?
Changing habits for perfect oral health
Keep your mouth clean and healthy by taking note of the following:
#1: Brush your teeth as soon as you wake up and not only after you have eaten. The bacteria and build-up of plaque overnight should be taken care of first thing in the morning, so try and get into the habit of brushing first thing!
#2: Flossing is more effective in cleaning your mouth than using mouth wash.
removes the dirt from your gums and between your teeth. Using mouth wash rinses your mouth and makes sure the germs don’t live in your mouth. Mouth wash isn’t an effective enough method to remove food particles from between your teeth and under your gums. Rather use both methods to keep your mouth super clean.
#3: Brushing your teeth for two minutes is the recommended time.
Two minutes seems like a lifetime when you’re standing at the bathroom sink brushing your teeth. To keep this sometimes tedious task a little more interesting, brush your teeth to your favourite song. This is sure to keep you brushing for well over the 20 seconds that most people brush for!
#4: Chew sugar-free gum.
Chewing produces saliva which contain enzymes that clean your mouth. Chew sugar-free gum to increase your oral health.
Don’t forget that your mouth is a breeding ground for some horrid things and you need to take good care of your mouth to ensure great oral health!
