If you’re one of the millions who suffer from psoriasis, you know just how hard it is to treat. Conventional medicine treats it with topical cortisone preparations. And while these can help your symptoms, there are a number of potential side effects.
Some of these include “bruising, changes in skin colour and dilated blood vessels. And to make matters worse it’s common for you to become resistant to the cortisone after a few months of treatment. And this means that dosages have to be increased all the time,” says Dr Jonathan Wright of Nutrition & Healing.
But fortunately, you can treat psoriasis just as effectively (if not more so) with natural therapies…
Three natural remedies to treating psoriasis
#1: Nickel: Discover how this “bad guy” could save you from a lifetime of itching
According to Dr Wright, in medicine, the nickel is usually thought of as a “bad guy”.
That’s because, it’s often the cause of reactions to jewellery (nickel dermatitis). But now recent research has shown nickel is an ‘essential element’ and, in small quantities, necessary to life.
When combined with bromide, it can be a very effective treatment for psoriasis. Often, psoriasis disappears completely.
“This treatment is definitely worth trying. The quantities of nickel and bromide required are quite low and adverse reactions are few,” says Dr Wright.
#2: Eliminate scaly skin with Forskolin
The reason psoriasis sufferers have scaly skin is because the skin’s cells are dividing too rapidly. This can often be normalised with an herbal remedy called Forskolin (another Ayurvedic wonder-medicine). Best of all forskolin doesn’t have any toxic side effects. Most preparations offer 5mg tablets.
“I suggest you take two or three of these daily, for a total dose of 10mg-15mg a day,” says Dr Wright.
#3: Vitamin B12: A vitamin victory over psoriasis
Vitamin B12 and folic acid are also great for psoriasis.
Dr Wright recommends you take them over the same period to get maximum relief. (Keep in mind that it can take two to three months to experience results.)
Also, keep in mind that because the dosages required are large (1,000 to 3,000mcg of vitamin B12 daily and 50mg of folic acid taken two or three times a day) you’ll need a prescription.
These natural treatments are available in your local health shop. It’s crucial that you speak to your doctor first if you’re considering these natural treatments.
