As Nutrition & Healing’s Dr Jonathan Wright says: “Scientists at the Monell Chemical Centre in Philadelphia found that a compound called oleocanthanol that’s found in freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil works just like ibuprofen in its ability to inhibit pain.”

While you’d have to drink a lot of olive oil to get these pain relief benefits, eating a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil prepared food is a great step in the right direction.

“Studies show turmeric, a popular East Indian spice, is actually three times more effective at easing pain than aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen, plus it can help relieve chronic pain for 50% of people struggling with arthritis and even fibromyalgia,” according to ivillage.com.
