Forget oysters and a couples massage - here are five surprising things that crank up your libido, according to science
You've tried all the usual turn-ons in the book: Downed oysters and bubbly, indulged in a couples massaged and watched super-sultry movies. Because you rely on these ways to boost your libido so often, you're now starting to feel tired and aren't responding to them as well as you used to.

According to Irwin Goldstein, MD, director of sexual medicine at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego in the USA, this is completely normal. But don't worry - there are loads of other things you can do to turn up your sexual desire! And you've probably never even heard of them before...

Four aphrodisiacs that will astonish you

#1: Try out yoga
Yoga does a lot more than just make you super-flexible – it revs up your libido too, according to a review published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy. Grabbing your yoga mat and getting your om on will put you more in tune with your body and, in turn, your sexuality.  It will also increase blood flow down there and improve your orgasms. While this particular study was focused mainly on women with sexual problems, lead author Lori Brotto, PhD, noted that “certainly anyone can benefit”.

#2: Down a glass of red wine
The next time you and your partner treat yourselves to a romantic dinner, have a glass of red wine with your meal. According to a study published in the The Journal of Sexual Medicine, women who drank a glass of red wine every day had higher levels of sexual desire compared to those who sipped any type of alcohol only occasionally or those who didn’t drink at all.

#3: Take part in an adrenaline-pumping activity
Instead of going for a walk on the beach with your partner, do something more exciting – for example, go surfing or zip-lining. A study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior suggests that men and women find the opposite sex more alluring after taking part in an adrenaline-pumping activity.

#4: Get grabby in unexpected times
Holding hands with your sweetheart is, well, sweet. But did you know that locking fingers can even make you hot and bothered? Dr Goldstein says that little acts of touching – especially in unexpected times – releases a hormone known as oxytocin, which boosts arousal and closeness, as well as other neurotransmitters related to sexual response.
