In an Australian study, the researchers interviewed heart attack patients and found that 21% of them had had a cold or respiratory infection within a month before the heart attack...

And 17% of these heart attack patients had had a cold in that previous week!

The researchers concluded that you're 13 more likely to suffer a heart attack straight after a cold if you have heart problems.

According to vitamin D researcher Michael Holick, immune cells have vitamin D receptors.

When an infection is detected – such as a cold or flu – the cells respond by activating vitamin D.

In one study, researchers compared blood test results to respiratory tract infections in more than 18,000 people. They found that a low level of vitamin D was significantly linked to a higher risk of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI).
