  1. Whole grains: Barley, oats, buckwheat and quinoa are high in vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants. Bake some healthy cookies using these ingredients so when you need a snack, they’re ready to eat.
  2. Fish: Eat fish at least twice a week, preferably more often. The best kind is the oily fish such as sardines, tuna and salmon. But don’t worry, they contain good fat called omega-3 fatty acids so they’re heat-healthy.
  3. Flaxseed: This tiny little seed is also packed with omega-3 fatty acids and fibre. Add flaxseed to your cereal in the morning, to your baking, yoghurt and in your soup for this heart-healthy goodness.
  4. Legumes: All legumes, which consist of beans and lentils, are high in fibre, magnesium and vitamin B6. You can add them to stews, soups, rice dishes and casseroles.
  5. Nuts: These tasty treats are also packed with omega-3 fatty acids. Eat five or so as a snack or add them to your baking, yoghurt and salads.
  6. Fruit: Are a rich source of vitamins, antioxidants and vitamins. And, it’s so versatile to use. You can eat it plain, add it to your breakfast, salads or desserts.
