Research confirms the incredible benefits strawberries and blueberries have for your heart health

A study involving 93,600 women between the ages of 25 and 42 took part in the Nurses' Health Study II in which Harvard Health researchers collected data about their diet for 18 years.
During the study, 405 women had hearts attacks, but the women who ate the most berries had the lowest risk. Those who added them to their diets at least three times a week cut their heart attack risk by an incredible 33%.
The researchers found it was the high concentration of the flavonoid anthocyanin that provides the most benefit to heart health.
This nutrient, which gives strawberries and blueberries their colour, helps dilate blood vessels to maintain blood pressure and keep plaque formation in the arteries at bay, say the study authors.
But that’s not all the study showed. After the study came to an end, researchers revealed that women who regularly ate other types of fruit and vegetables still had a high heart attack risk because they didn’t eat strawberries and blueberries.
That’s a good enough reason to add them to your diet, right?
