You may have great habits during the day. You eat all the right food, you take the important supplements and you exercise. But if you're not getting enough sleep, you're undoing all that hard work every single night.

Poor sleep habits raise the risk of disease and even an early death. The latest research confirms that people who don’t get enough sleep have a much higher risk of a stroke.

The research tells us that poor sleep habits can more than quadruple the risk of a stroke.

The study of 4,666 people found that the increased risk of stroke only applied to people who were of normal weight – not to those who were overweight or obese! Needless to say, obesity is a stroke risk factor, whether you get the right amount of sleep or not. In fact, as we’ve advised you before, poor sleep habits lead to weight gain.

Don’t run the risk of disease with poor sleeping habits

Whether you’re at your optimal weight or you need to lose some kilos, you can run the risk of disease from poor sleeping habits. These include an increased risk of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer and an early death.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the average adult sleeps less than seven hours a night. While sleep requirements vary from person to person, most healthy adults need between seven and nine hours sleep per night to function at their best.
