A new study published in the Journal of Nutrition shows that this fruit I'm going to tell you about in a moment is effective in lowering cholesterol levels - especially the bad type of cholesterol, known as LDL.

In the study, 45 participants were put on three different diets for five weeks and then swapped over. One of the groups ate one avocado per day. 

The researchers measured cholesterol levels of the participants and the group on the avocado diet for five weeks lowered their LDL cholesterol, and specifically oxidised LDL - the most dangerous kind. 

LDL cholesterol is a tough "nut to crack", but avocados are so rich in nutritional and healthy oils and fatty acids, and antioxidants, which makes them highly effective at targeting this specifically dangerous type of cholesterol.
