Even very young obese children show significant heart disease risk
During the study, researchers compared 61 obese kids between the ages of eight and 21 to 40 kids of normal weight.
They found that the obese kids, no matter what their age, had significant markers for
heart disease. They
blood pressure and “bad” cholesterol levels were high, while their “good” cholesterol levels were low. But it wasn’t only these markers that shocked researchers.
When they did scans on the obese children’s hearts, they noticed
physical changes were present – ones they only saw in older adults with heart disease.
Because of their weight, their heart had to pump blood around a larger body size. In the beginning, it’s like exercising any other muscle. It just gets bigger and stronger. But just like any other muscle, when it grows, it has a higher need for oxygen and nutrients. And it’s when it doesn’t receive what it needs this it becomes fatigued.
That’s where your heart muscle is different to other muscles in your body. When your skeletal muscles become tired, you stop exercising and rest them. But your heart can’t stop what its doing and rest! It keeps going at the same pace until it can’t anymore. That’s why heart disease sets in.
And that’s what’s happening to your child’s heart simply because of his weight…
It’s up to you to stop it in its tracks and get him back to a normal, healthier weight.
Here’s how to take the first three steps to improve your child’s weight and heart health.

Break the cycle of obesity and heart disease with these three steps
Step #1: Change your habits – change your child’s health
If your child is
overweight at a very young age, it’s probably because of the food you have in the house and allow him to eat.
If you want to change
his health, you’ll have to change yours too and stop buying and filling your home with unhealthy food.
Take control of yours and your family’s diet for overall improvement in health.
Step #2: Get up and get moving to encourage your child to do the same
You can’t tell your child to run around when you’re a couch potato. You need to set the example and get him up and moving about.
You can do fun activities with him like kicking a soccer ball, walking the dogs or swimming. But you can also do indoor activities that can help. If he likes playing computer or TV games, get him the type that involves interaction and movement! He won’t even know it’s exercise if he’s having fun.
Step #3: Teach him to make the right choices
There’s no reason to only feed your child “bland, tasteless” food. Not only are there thousands of healthy foods that taste good, but you can reward him with a special treat every now and again for good behaviour when it comes to his diet and exercise routine.
Don’t let your child’s weight when he’s young be the reason you don’t see him grow up. Make these important lifestyle changes starting today!
