Over 21,000 people took part in 39 high quality studies, and the Japanese went through all of the data. They found that, on average, people who changed to a vegetarian diet when they had high blood pressure, saw a ten-point drop in their systolic blood pressure and a five point drop in their diastolic blood pressure. 
 
Co-author on this study, Dr Neal Barnard, was so excited about the results because he believes: “Just a 5-point drop [in systolic blood pressure] would lead to a nine-percent drop in heart disease, and a 14-percent drop in stroke [risk]”. And there’s no medication that can do that!
