Know how to assess your cholesterol so you can lower your cholesterol naturally if you need to 

Let’s start with the good type of cholesterol. This is the high density lipoprotein (HDL) type. It’s a molecule that goes around mopping up fatty triglycerides (TGs) in your system. The more TGs attached to the molecule, the better. That’s why it’s a very dense molecule.
It’s job is to go to the liver where the attached fats become something useful or go into storage.
Then there’s the low density lipoprotein (LDL). These molecules don’t mop up many TGs and they float around your blood. They don’t go to the liver because they’re not “ready” and they begin sticking to the walls of your arteries. And that’s why you want to lower your cholesterol levels so this doesn’t happen.

When do you know you need to do something to lower your cholesterol levels? 

The optimal levels of blood cholesterol you should have is below 5.1mmol/l. This is a mix of HDL and LDL at any given time. Anything above this needs intervention.
Your LDL alone should be no more than 2.6mmol/l and HDL should optimally be around 1.2mmol/l for men and 1.4mmol/l for women.
