Forget an aspirin a day! If you want to protect your heart, drink this

by , 19 March 2015

Aspirin therapy has long been the buzz word for perfect heart health. This because it helps lower blood pressure and keeps heart attacks at bay by preventing blood clots.

But now a new study funded by the British Heart Foundation reveals something that could be much more effective at lowering high blood pressure:

Here's why…

Beetroot: Nature’s best high blood pressure remedy

The key finding of the study was that “a daily glass of beetroot juice can lower blood pressure in people with hypertension,” revealed senior research advisor Dr Shannon Amoils.
And significantly too!
The study, which involved 64 patients between the ages of 18 and 85, showed that the group who drank one glass of beetroot juice a day for four weeks experienced:
  • A 8/4 mmHg reduction in their blood pressure;
  • A 20% improvement in blood vessel dilation capacity;
  • And their artery stiffness reduced by around 10%.
According to Dr Amoils, it’s because beetroot contains high levels of inorganic nitrate. Your body converts this to nitric oxide, which relaxes and dilates your blood vessels.
And that’s not the only heart benefit you get when drinking beetroot juice.
Beetroot is also a unique source of betaine, a nutrient that helps protects cells, proteins, and enzymes from environmental stress. It's also helps fight inflammation, protects internal organs and improves cardiovascular risk factors.
Drinking a glass of beetroot juice sure sounds like an easy way to protect your heart from risk, doesn’t it?
The only problem is that beetroot juice isn’t easy to find in your local supermarket.
Thankfully, it is easy to make.
