Scientists tested 10 different antidepressants and found that two of them increases the risk of C. difficile.

C. diff, officially known as Clostridioides difficile, is a bacterium that causes severe diarrhoea and colitis (chronic inflammation of the colon).

Even mild C. difficile infections can quickly progress to fatal disease if not treated. Thousands of people get hospitilised with this condition. 

And, if you take antidepressants containing mirtazapine or fluoxetine, research shows, your risk of infection could double.
