Introducing the herb that could halve the number of headaches and migraines you endure...
The herb is butterbur. It's been used to treat headaches and migraines for centuries.
In a study published in the journal Neurology, a group of 245 migraine sufferers were either given a 75mg dose of butterbur, or a placebo.
The participants, who had two to six migraines per month in the three months prior to the study, took the butterbur or placebo twice daily for four months. At the end of the study, those taking the butterbur experienced a 48% reduction in headache frequency.

Butterbur’s headache-preventive capabilities are likely due to its anti-inflammatory and spasmolytic (muscle-relaxant) effects.
The herb contains active components known as isopetasin, oxopetasin, and petasin - which induce smooth muscle relaxation, especialy in cerebral blood vessel walls.

What you need to know before you try butterbur...
While butterbur extract contains useful compounds, it also contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) - a toxic substance that causes hepatoxicity in humans and has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal studies.
It's important to look for PA-free butterbur supplements - which you can buy from good health shops.
