Ancient Chinese healers, as recorded in medical texts dated 2697 BC, claimed that Schisandra was an effective remedy that could increase
resistance against infection, reduce stress
, improve energy levels, boost muscle power, and stimulate memory.
Since then, the evidence has been steadily mounting regarding its ability to heal and regulate many of the body’s important functions.
And for this reason, Schisandra is now classified as an adaptogen – a herb that helps your body adapt and deal efficiently with the various stresses put upon it.

How to tell if you could be affected by Adrenal Fatigue
• You feel tired or weak
• You need coffee to get going
in the mornings…
• Your daily tasks feel like hard work
• You feel like you’re not coping
(it’s all too much)…
• You struggle to concentrate
and don’t finish tasks…
• You feel irritable, anxious or depressed
• Get headaches
• Reduced interest
Feeling run down and drained all the time doesn’t have to be your normal state-of-being.
Unfortunately, it is for millions of people – all over the world – who just can’t seem to keep up anymore.
And there’s a very good explanation for this…
Researchers at numerous institutions, including Harvard University, Johns Hopkins and Stanford University identified that certain chemicals flick the ‘age switch’ on in people over 50, forcing them to slow down.
These chemicals gradually build up in your bloodstream over time as you age.
Until one day the switch finally flicks causing your metabolism to drag along at snail’s pace, dropping your oxygen levels and dipping your hormones until they’re practically undetectable.
But it doesn't have to be that way!
The answer to restoring your youthful energy is as easy as 1-2-3… Full details here…
It is one of the best adaptogens in nature...
arises, the adaptogen equips your body to meet the challenge on equal terms. It strengthens your immune system
and prevents the stress – be it the pressure of work, toxins in the air or an excessively poor diet for example – from harming your body.
Modern research is revealing that adaptogens have many of the same characteristics as those discovered by the ancient Chinese. In the last few years in particular, there has been a tremendous amount of scientific interest in adaptogens, especially in terms of their ability to stimulate the immune system
, protect the liver, reduce anxiety
and stress, improve mental well-being and enhance physical performance – so much so that Russian Olympic athletes have frequently used plant adaptogens, including Schisandra, to optimise their performance.
Now, scientists from across the globe, from China to the US, have reported numerous positive findings in relation to the herb and it is proving to be a remarkable adaptogen.
Active ingredients in Schisandra help regulate many vital functions in your body
Biochemical Technicians working at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the Hunan University in China, have discovered that Schisandra contains several chemical ingredients that possess a variety of health-giving benefits.
These active ingredients include schisandrin A, B and C, schisandrol, and gomisin, all of which are lignans – powerful plant chemicals that help regulate your metabolism, balance hormones and protect the constituents of your cells against injury or toxins.
Further research conducted at the Department of Pharmacology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, has shown that the lignans present in Schisandra are more powerful than vitamin E (a wellknown antioxidant), in protecting your cells against free radicals.
Schisandra extracts were found to be able to shield cells against external chemical injury, improve their general functioning, and reduce the damage caused by a harmful biochemical reaction known as lipid peroxidation – whereby free radicals attack the fatty components of the cell and destroy them, which eventually kills the cell.
In another study, performed at the Hong Kong University, scientists discovered that one of the active ingredients, schisandrin B, is an effective detoxifier that is particularly good at protecting the liver against harmful toxins.
More and more health-related benefits are constantly being discovered
One person who has studied 4aniculate’s medicinal properties in-depth is Dr Opletal, a Czechoslovakian scientist. He says: “The extract of the 4aniculate chinensis fruit (particularly that from its seeds) is a component of many preparations designed for the treatment of heart and liver disease, nervous conditions, and age-related memory problems. It is also a supplement taken by patients with cancer
Other studies are revealing even more health-related benefits associated with the herb. For example, in the course of studying 4aniculate’s anti-stress activities, Japanese scientists from the Department of Radiochemistry, Niigata College of Pharmacy, found that the herb – together with two other traditional Chinese adaptogens and panax ginseng – can protect the brain against a lack of oxygen.
This has important implications in terms of stroke treatment. During a stroke the supply of blood to your brain becomes interrupted, which causes individual brain cells to become starved of oxygen and eventually kills them. Animal studies have shown that brain cells treated with Schisandra become better able to withstand this kind of punishment and can survive for longer compared to untreated cells.
What to take for best results
It is best to purchase a product that contains a standardised extract of 4aniculate chinensis, in order to guarantee that you are receiving enough of the active ingredients. Because strengths can vary so much from product to product, please check individual product labels for details regarding dosage.
WARNING: You should not take this product if you suffer from heartburn or gastritis.
