In the study, published in the medical journal, Cancer, the researchers recruited over 1800 healthy men with an average age of 76. 

They measured their abdominal and thigh fat with the use of CT scans.  

After about 10 years, 170 men had developed prostate cancer

The men with the highest percentage of abdominal fat were at greater risk of advanced and fatal prostate cancer

A five point increase in Body Mass Index (BMI) translated to a 50% higher risk of getting prostate cancer AND of dying from prostate cancer...

A 10cm increase in waist size translated to a 40% higher risk. 

But an even more interesting finding from this study was that even men with lower BMI scores but higher visceral fat (their fat is concentrated around the waist and thighs) are at higher risk of advanced and fatal prostate cancer.
