The mind really is in the driver’s seat of your life!
The mind is where your thinking, feeling, perceiving, evaluating, responding, deciding and literally all the “programming” takes place. This is where the commands get generated and are sent out to your nervous system and executed in your body. This ulitmately gives you the results you experience.
Last week I touched on the fact that change is hard for most people, because they focus on the behaviour. They try hard to change their behaviour by sticking to goals, ideals, programmes, diets or whatever. But often fail before seeing a change… Many people know what to do, yet they still are not able to stick to it.
That's' because their current situation is kept in place by a memorised set of behaviours, emotional responses, unconscious habits, hardwired attitudes, beliefs and perceptions that function like the software of a computer program.
This is the problem many people experience...
True transformation lies with changing your software, your beliefs and frames of mind.
As we learned last week, you are made up of your habits, that which you consistently do over time. And your habits are a set of automatic, unconscious, thoughts, emotions and behaviours. These collectively habituate over time and become your frames of mind or perspectives.
Therefore it only makes sense that you start the change process at the top; your mind. These programmes, beliefs or frames are easily identified by paying attention to your language. Especially your self-talk. What are you saying to yourself when you relate to a healthy lifestyle?
Here are a few examples of destructive or disempowering language:
“I have no control over my health, body or behaviour…”
“I have bad genes…”
“I will start on Monday…”
“You will never succeed with this, you are too much like your mother…”
“I deserve this cheat meal…”
“What difference does it make, we will all die anyway…”
“Life is made to be enjoyed…”

Over the next few days, become aware of your self-talk and also your language when you are talking to others. Take out a pen and paper, or on your phone, note down every time you identify a thought or feeling, that's keeping your bad lifestyle habits in place.
