There are many glorious claims about hemp oil - it contains the best essential fatty acids ratio and combination, is the only plant source of vitamin D, is brimming with amino acid variety and is the most unsaturated oil. Can one oil be all that? Yes!
But have you heard that hemp oil is also excellent for skin? It can replace most products in your skincare routine, including your moisturiser, acne treatment and make-up remover. Here are eight ways to use hemp oil on your skin.
Eight ways to use hemp oil in your skincare routine
#1: To moisturise dry skin
If you’re prone to dry skin, hemp
oil can help! Simply rub the oil into the dry, cracked areas for an instant deep conditioning treatment. For very dry hands or feet, massage in the oil and then wear gloves or socks overnight to let it work its magic. You’ll wake up with the softest skin ever!
#2: To restore tired skin
When you massage hemp
oil into cleansed facial skin before going to bed, it works just like a skin serum to replenish your skin. In the morning, you’re sure to look – and feel – years younger! Bonus: Hemp
oil is inexpensive compared to conventional skin serums.
#3: To strengthen cuticles and nails
Hemp oil can help heal broken cuticles as well as strengthen your nails. Massage a few drops directly into your cuticles and nails – it’s great for both your fingernails and toenails.
#4: To reduce acne and breakouts
Hemp oil helps draw out sebum plugs that trigger acne, whiteheads, blackheads and cysts. To prevent these skin problems along with daily breakouts, massage the oil into problem areas – such as your forehead or cheeks – and work it in gently for a few minutes. Make sure you do this every day for best results.
#5: To remove make-up (even eye make-up)
Hemp oil dissolves the waxes and oils found in make-up products – including stubborn eye make-up. Ever heard of the “like dissolves like” rule? Gently rub a small amount of hemp oil into your skin and use a cotton pad or a very soft tissue to wipe the make-up away.
#6: To relieve atopic dermatitis
According to a study conducted in 2005, internally consuming two tablespoons of dietary hemp oil every day can help relieve atopic dermatitis, or eczema
#7: To deep clean pores
Applying hemp oil to your dry, clean face before steaming your face by laying a hot (but not scalding), damp face cloth over your face and letting it sit until it cools down will help clean out your pores and detox your skin. Washing your face afterwards is optional.
#8: To soothe dry scalp
You can relieve a dry, itchy scalp by massaging a tablespoon or two of hemp oil into your scalp and letting it sit for 10 to 20 minutes before washing your hair as normal. You’ll find that the oil will also nourish and deep condition your hair, meaning no need for conditioner!
Pssst! Did you know that hemp oil offers your overall health a number of benefits when you consume it internally? You can enjoy it straight, put it in salad dressings or use it as a butter replacement on vegetables, potatoes, rice or toast. You’re sure to love its delicious, nutty flavour! Just keep in mind that pure hemp oil isn’t suitable for high-heat cooking – it has a low smoke point and breaks down at even moderate heat.
