One in every two men over the age of 60 suffer from an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH for short. And, as you get older, the higher the chances you'll suffer from prostate problems. By the age of 85, you have a 95% chance of suffering from BPH.

1.   Sesame seeds: These little seeds are rich in zinc – a mineral essential to prostate health. Studies have shown that men with BPH have lower levels of zinc in their blood, sometimes up to 75% lower than men with healthy prostates. You can also eat more oysters, pumpkin seeds and almonds to boost your zinc intake.

2.   Salmon: This delicious fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. They help your body make prostaglandin that help regulate urinary flow. Flax seeds, walnuts, canola oil and kidney beans are also high in omega-3 fatty acids.

3.   Bell peppers: These vegetables contain more vitamin C than any other vegetable. But, these will help you make up your vitamin C quota for each day: Broccoli, cauliflower, kale and Brussels sprouts.

4.   Tomatoes: They’re rich in lycopene, the compound that gives vegetables their red colour. Lycopene helps lower your PSA levels and prevent BPH. These also contain lycopene is lesser quantities: Watermelon, apricots, grapefruit and papaya.

5.   Avocadoes: This creamy fruit is rich in beta-sitosterol – a plant sterol. It can help reduce symptoms of BPH and improve urine flow. Men taking beta-sitosterol also empty out their bladders more effectively.
