The researchers from Newcastle and Durham Universities in the UK followed 214 participants who were told to go about their normal days while wearing fitness monitors.

They scanned their hip and spine bone density at the start and again at the end of the study...

And what they found was pretty shocking...

They found that those who sat more had weaker bones!

Men who sat for half an hour more than average, for example, had 22% weaker bones.

That's the kind of bone loss you get if you smoked!

7 ways to protect your bones by sitting less... 

If your job demands that you sit for long hours, make it a habit of getting up every hour and walk around the office - get some water, get some air, go to the loo, just get up and move a little.

Make it an absolute MUST to go for a long walk every day - get out for an hour before or after work and walk, cycle, run or do yoga for example.  

Don't eat lunch at your desk, go to the park or sit under a tree.
