Add eggs and beer to your diet to avoid being the one in three who dies from dementia…

by , 19 March 2013

It's devastating watching someone start the downward spiral into dementia. “Even when dementia isn't the direct cause of death, it can be the final blow - speeding someone's decline by interfering with their care for other serious illnesses,” says CTVNews about a new study released today. Luckily, you can avoid this fate by changing your diet to prevent dementia today!

Every year, around 350,000 new cases of Alzheimer’s are reported and this trend is increasing, says FSP Health.
Now a staggering one in three seniors now dies with dementia.
It’s so bad that 61% of 70-year-olds who have Alzheimer's are expected to die before their 80th birthday, says CTVNews.
But Alzheimer’s itself isn’t the cause: Severe dementia makes it difficult for people to move around or swallow properly.
And this increases the risk of pneumonia, one of the most commonly identified causes of death among Alzheimer's patients.
The sad part? Dementia can be prevented.
Because chronic stress leads to increased risk for dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, says Health Canal.
The elevation of stress steroids that’s seen in the brain during stress can inhibit the general brain activity.
So the moment you feel stressed, you increase your risk of dementia.
Eliminate sources of constant stress to prevent dementia!
That’s why it’s important to recognise the role of stress in your life – if you’re constantly stressed, you need to make a life change to relieve the pressure and reduce your risk of dementia as a result.
It’s also a good idea to stay mentally alert by learning new hobbies, reading, or solving crossword puzzles, says WebMD.
And you can make a change to your diet that’ll prevent memory loss.
Because the choline in egg yolks helps prevent memory loss, reports FSP Health.
So if you’re on a low-cholesterol diet and you stick to egg whites, your memory could suffer!
One more surprising way to protect your memory…
A pint of beer or a glass of wine a day triggers the growth of new brain cells and boosts memory, says FSP Health
Just make sure you don’t overdo it, as you’re then at risk of ‘alcohol dementia’, as excessive drinking causes memory loss, cautions About.com.
There you have it. Get rid of sources of constant stress in your life, then eggs and beer could be all it takes to protect you from dementia!
