Fatty fish - salmon, sardines and trout: They're rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help reduce inflammation in the body.

Tomatoes: Contain a phtochemical called lycopene which is a powerful antioxidant shown to benefit prostate gland cells. You need to cook them though and add a healthy fat - like olive oil - for your body to absorb the lycopene in them. 

Berries: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries also contain powerful antioxidants, which help reduce inflammation and toxins.

Broccoli, bok choy, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage: These vegetables contain a chemical called sulforaphane which has been shown to target cancer cells and promote a healthy prostate.

Nuts, shellfish and legumes: They're rich in zinc, which is found in high concentrations in the prostate. Zinc helps balance testosterone and DHT. 

Citrus fruits, like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits: They're rich in vitamin C, which helps protect the prostate gland.

Onions and garlic: A study found that men with BPH generally eat less garlic and onions than men who don't suffer from BPH.

Foods that aggravate prostate symptoms

Red meat: Research has shown that men who eat red meat every day have triple the risk of prostate enlargement.

Dairy foods: Regular consumption of dairy has also been linked to an increased risk of BPH. 

Caffeine: It increases the frequency of urination - which is definitely something you want to put the brakes on.

Alcohol: Also stimulates urine production. 

Salt: A high salt diet can aggravate BPH symptom. Avoid salt from the shaker as well as processed and packaged foods which are notorious for their high salt content.

Medication: Over-the-counter cold and cough medicines (especially antihistamines), tranquilizers, antidepressants and blood pressure drugs also aggravate symptoms. If you've recently started taking these, they could be the reason your prostate is keeping you up at night.
