Yes, you can reverse type 2 diabetes! Here's how…

by , 22 October 2014

If you've received the devastating diagnosis from your doctor that you have type 2 diabetes, you might think there's no way to get your health back on track.

But there is!

And the latest research coming out of Newcastle University in the UK explains you can do it by getting to the bottom of the underlying reason you got diabetes in the first place: Belly fat.

Now, if you're overweight, you're likely to have more belly fat than people of normal weight, but this doesn't mean they're less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than you are!

In fact, many “skinny” people collect fat in their abdomen that they can't see.

And you're both at equal risk of diabetes because of what this fat does.

Read on to find out why…

Reaching your fat tolerance is the reason you develop type 2 diabetes

Prof Taylor from Newcastle University says everyone has a different fat tolerance.

This means someone with a BMI of 30 could be safe from diabetes while someone else with a BMI of 25 can have the full-blown disease. But the scary thing is, you don’t even have to be overweight to develop type 2 diabetes.

In the Asian community, many people develop the disease when they go over a BMI of 19, which is on the low end of the “normal” BMI scale.

So it’s important to emphasis that everyone has their own level of fat tolerance and, reaching it, means you’ll develop the disease.

But what it is about fat that causes type 2 diabetes?

Fat blocks the normal functions of your liver and pancreas – two of the most important organs for insulin production and blood sugar regulation

As you know, your liver stores excess sugars for your body to use as energy at a later stage.

And that’s why, when your liver doesn’t work properly, your risk of diabetes shoots up.

An article posted on diabetesselfmanagement.com says people with fatty livers are three times more likely to develop diabetes.

While we don’t really know exactly how it works, it seems the fat messes with the livers enzyme productions.

Basically, there are two enzymes that work hand-in-hand when your body needs sugar. One turns the release function on to make stored sugar available. The second enzyme – thought to release under instruction from insulin amongst other signals – tells the liver to shut off the sugar release.

Now, if your liver doesn’t work as it should, the switch doesn’t turn off and sugar keeps flooding into your blood.

Combine this problem with a fatty pancreas that can’t make enough insulin and there’s also less signalling for the second enzyme to start doing its job.

That’s why Prof Taylor says there’s one easy way to reverse type 2 diabetes.

Lose weight to reverse type 2 diabetes

A small-scale clinical study posted by the National Institutes of Health shows that losing weight through a calorie-restricted diet is the start of being able to reverse type 2 diabetes.

11 people with type 2 diabetes followed a seriously calorie-restricted diet plan for eight weeks.

In the first week, results showed blood glucose levels became stable compared to their initial evaluations.

After eight week, their insulin production and levels were back to normal too and they were clinically clear of type 2 diabetes!

As you can see, it’s entirely possible to reverse your type 2 diabetes completely. But it’s essential you don’t attempt to do this without your doctor’s approval or supervision!
