Ward off type 2 diabetes by eating THIS for breakfast every day
If you're an egg lover, we have some good news! Recent research published in the America Journal of Clinical Nutrition has revealed that consuming an egg a day may lower your risk for type 2 diabetes.

This follows the USDA's announcement that it's thrown out its longstanding recommendation that you shouldn't eat more than 300 mg cholesterol per day. Things keep looking (sunny side) up! Read on to learn more about how eating eggs can protect you from type 2 diabetes.

Study finds that eating an egg a day may lower your risk for type 2 diabetes

The study was conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Eastern Finland. To reach their findings, the researchers recorded the dietary habits of 2,000 middle-aged men and follow up for a period of about 10 years. There was one finding really stood out to the researchers: Eating at least a half an egg per day appeared to lower risk of type 2 diabetes by 37%, compared to eating just one egg or less per week.
This finding really surprised the researchers because, for many years, dietary cholesterol has been thought to be a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. And eggs, of course, are a main source of dietary cholesterol. The team concluded that demonising eggs for their cholesterol misses the fact that they offer a host of other beneficial compounds, too.

“In addition to high-quality protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, eggs include bioactive compounds like carotenoids, which have been found to have anti-inflammatory properties,” said lead author Jyrki K Virtanen, PhD, adjunct professor of nutritional epidemiology at University of Eastern Finland. He added that inflammation is a risk factor for diabetes.

If you already have type 2 diabetes, you should avoid eggs!

So does this mean that people with type 2 diabetes should up their egg intake, too? The researchers said no, since some studies have found that eggs can increase risk of heart disease for people who already have type 2 diabetes.
But if you’re otherwise healthy and are looking to stave off type 2 diabetes, stick to one egg a day and scramble away!
