Study finds that lavender oil can help prevent and relieve diabetes
As you know, diabetes is one of the most widespread chronic illnesses today. It's estimated that 10% of our population is diagnosed with this metabolic illness, while another eight million have it but aren't diagnosed.

Unfortunately, doctors are yet to find a cure for diabetes. However, you are able to manage the condition by tweaking your diet, lifestyle and, often, medication. Another way to manage diabetes is with lavender essential oil, according to a 2014 study. Read on to learn more about what the researchers found.

What is lavender oil?

Lavender oil is one of the most used essential oils in the world. The oil, which is distilled from lavender flowers, is renowned for its medicinal purposes.
Lavender oil is wonderfully versatile. Some of the most commons uses for this oil include cleansing cuts, bruises and skin irritations, calming the mind and body, and relieving headaches and migraines.

How can lavender oil help diabetics?

Tunisian traditional medicine uses locally grown lavender for health support. For the study, Tunisian scientists conducted a 15-day study of diabetic rats. They used lavender oil to treat the rats.
What the researchers found was that lavender oil helped protect the diabetic rats against metabolic illness, weight gain, depletion of antioxidants, blood glucose increases, and liver and kidney dysfunction and lipoperoxidation. All of these factors are hallmarks of diabetes.
Researchers concluded that it’s the potent antioxidants found in lavender oil that promote diabetes prevention and relief as well as long term health. However, researchers did make it clear that more research is needed to formulate concrete answers. Perhaps one day in the near future, lavender oil will be the standard for diabetic prevention!

How do you use lavender oil?

Lavender oil is a fantastic oil to use topically on your skin for a number of reasons – it smells great, it’s incredibly calming and it actually promotes skin health due to its high antioxidant content.
Simply massage a few drops of lavender oil into the skin around your ears and throat. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of the oil to your bath water, then hop in and soak for up to an hour to reap the same benefits.

Where can you buy lavender oil?

You’ll find lavender oil at most pharmacies and health stops. Be sure to only buy quality brand lavender oil.
