Reversing type 2 diabetes can be as easy as losing weight
There's a widespread belief that type 2 diabetes is a “progressive and incurable disease”, but many doctors and patient's don't realise that reversing type 2 diabetes can be as easy as losing weight. This is according to a new report published in the BMJ.

The thrust of the report is that greater awareness, when combined with better monitoring and recording of remissions could lead to many more type 2 diabetes patients no longer having to live with the disease. Read on for the full story.

The global rate of type 2 diabetes has nearly quadrupled over the past 35 years...

In 1980, there were approximately 108 million people with type 2 diabetes. This number rose to 422 million in 2014.
Most diabetes cases are type 2 diabetes, which is a blood sugar disorder that occurs when the body becomes less effective at using insulin to help cells convert blood sugar into energy. It’s well established that excess body weight is a leading cause of this type of diabetes.

When this research first crossed my desk I couldn’t believe it!
The latest blood sugar science shows that your body’s own safety mechanism is why your current blood sugar solution may be selling you short.
In fact, this research confirms that targeting only your body’s natural insulin and your pancreas to conquer blood sugar is like trying to douse a forest fire with a glass of water.
But this research has also led to some really exciting news for you—a breakthrough in blood sugar science that no one saw coming.

Report reveals that reversing type 2 diabetes could be as easy as losing weight

The report by professor Mike EJ Lean and other researchers from the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom notes that 15 kg often produces “total remission” of type 2 diabetes.
Lean and his colleagues note that the current management guidelines for type 2 diabetes concentrate on decreasing blood sugar levels and heart health risks through the “use of anti-diabetes drugs with only lip service paid to diet and lifestyle advice”. As a result, many patients develop further health issues and on average live six years less than people without diabetes.
In the meantime, while reversing type 2 diabetes “is clearly attainable for some, possibly many patients,” Lean and his colleagues note that currently it’s “very rarely achieved or recorded”.
