Curcumin is a pigment that gives curry its color. As I’ve mentioned, curcumin is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
A new study shows that those properties might be exactly what prediabetics need.
Researchers recruited more than 235 prediabetics. Half received a placebo during the nine-month trial. The other half took curcumin supplements. The daily dose was approximately 1.5 grams.
Results… More than 15 percent in the placebo group developed type 2
diabetes. In the curcumin group, zero cases.
This was no fluke. Type 2 markers improved in the curcumin group. These subjects had better function of beta cells. (Those are the cells that store and release insulin.) The curcumin group also reduced insulin resistance.
And an added bonus… Curcumin subjects lost weight. They also dropped a bit of waist circumference. These changes were slight compared to placebo. But every little bit helps. Especially when you’re avoiding a type 2 diagnosis.
These subtle signs could signal that you might need some help keeping your blood sugar in balance...
