Here's what happens if you don't do such a good job of controlling diabetes…

by , 21 February 2015

When you're first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you go through a range of emotions. You feel angry, sad, depressed and eventually you come to realise that living with type 2 diabetes isn't necessarily a death sentence.

And, as time goes by, you may even start slacking on your management of diabetes. But there's a real risk of damaging your organs beyond repair if you do this!

Here are the signs to look out for that tell you your diabetes is not being properly controlled…

Five signs your diabetes symptoms are worsening

These are the signs that tell you you’re not managing your symptoms of sugar diabetes well and you could be causing major and irreversible organ damage:

  1. Fatigue: If you feel tired all the time, especially after meals, your muscles may not be getting the fuel they need.

  2. Feeling shaky or dizzy spells: These type 2 diabetes symptoms are telling you your brain isn’t getting enough glucose to function. Drink a glass of juice to correct the immediate deficiency and talk to your doctor about adjusting the medication if you can’t control your diabetes as well as you used to.

  3. Swollen hands and feet: If you have high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, your kidneys take a beating and over time they don’t function as well as they should. They’re no longer able to get rid of wastes and fluid effectively. And as a result, your feet and hands may swell.

  4. Numbness and tingling in your hands and feet: Damage to your nerves, especially in your extremities, due to high glucose levels, can cause tingling and numbness in your hands and feet.

  5. Stomach problems: Diabetes 2 also affects the nerves in your stomach and as a result, you could experience constipation or diarrhoea.

These are just five signs that your diabetes is running awry and you need to do something about it. EVEN if you think you’ve done everything right to manage your diabetes.

But it doesn’t have to be this way…
