Fish, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate and spinach all have one thing in common: They slash your diabetes risk

by , 23 October 2014

The foods you eat can slash your diabetes risk. But it's those that contain one essential mineral that can slash it the most, says a recent study. So, why then do only half of people around the world have the right levels they need in their blood?

Perhaps it's because they don't know about how important it is.

That's why it's essential you keep reading! Today, you'll find out how to protect yourself from the devastating effects of type 2 diabetes, just by eating the right foods.

Getting your daily dose of this one mineral ensures you’re 37% less likely to develop diabetes, says study

Tuffs University researchers recently published the astounding findings of their study in the Diabetes Care journal. Otherwise healthy people can maintain their health just by eating fish, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate and spinach.

This because of the one thing these foods all have in common: Magnesium.

Just by maintaining their body’s magnesium levels, they were able to keep their diabetes risk 37% lower than if they had low magnesium levels.

But it’s not only healthy people that benefit from magnesium’s diabetes risk-slashing ability.

Even study participants who had markers showing they’re more susceptible to diabetes had a whopping 32% lower risk of actually developing the disease when they had higher magnesium levels in their blood.

Other studies found similar benefits…

Three other studies show how important magnesium is for diabetes risk reduction

1.    A 2013 study posted in the journal Nutrients confirmed that pre-diabetic patients had lower blood magnesium levels.

2.    The American Diabetic Association researchers released a press statement saying the following: "Magnesium intake may be particularly beneficial in offsetting your risk of developing diabetes, if you are high risk." They discovered that, when they increased the magnesium intake of patients with high diabetes risks, it lowered considerably.

3.    A Japanese study found magnesium to have strong protective benefits in patients with insulin resistance, inflammation and a drinking problem.

So why is it so important?

Magnesium plays a particularly important role in your body’s metabolic processes

Magnesium is essential for your body to function normally. It’s part of every metabolic process including sugar regulation via insulin.

Experts believe it plays a role in turning the switch of the insulin receptors on your cells off and on.

That’s why, when you don’t have enough, your cells stop responding to insulin like they should!

But with this comes another process that causes an even bigger magnesium deficiency. When your body doesn’t use insulin properly, your body gets rid of magnesium via your kidneys. It’s a vicious cycle that can leave you with type 2 diabetes.

Luckily, there’s a simple way to “fix” it.

2.    Dark chocolate with more than 70% cocoa or plain cocoa.
3.    Bananas.
4.    Pumpkin seeds.
5.    Flaxseed.
