by , 14 May 2014

You've just received the news: ‘You have type II diabetes'. Your head is spinning, you're overwhelmed with all the information on diabetes. But mostly, you feel trapped in a body that's no longer your perfect sanctuary.

Here's how to cope…

Prioritise your diabetes support to help you cope with your new diagnosis

The first thing you need to do is stop yourself from panicking. Accept your type II diabetes diagnosis. For now that is the reality.
BUT, you can change that going forward! You can overcome your type II diabetes so it goes away forever, or at least reduce it to something you just need to monitor.

And the only way you can get to that point is to lose weight and control your diabetes symptoms.
Here are some tips to help you achieve both of these:

Is DIABETES a BALD-FACED LIE!?

Imagine if you could throw away your needles, get off of insulin and never worry about blindness, amputation, or worse.

The Health Sciences Institute announces the "Medical Breakthrough of the Century" - From insulin dependent to NON DIABETIC in 6 weeks!?

So ask yourself... What's the first thing you'll eat when you're DIABETES-FREE?

Use these smart weight loss tips to keep your diabetes under control

  • Make sure your weight loss goals are realistic: Type II diabetics should aim to lose 15% of their body weight. Now, this won’t happen overnight. So calculate what 15% of your body weight is, then work out how many months it’ll take you to lose that weight based on a target of half a kilo to one kilo per month. Don’t worry if it seems like it’ll take forever, just keep to it and if you overachieve, reward yourself by buying a new dress or going for a massage.
  • Make exercise a compulsory daily activity: Just like brushing your teeth is not negotiable whether you leave the house or not, so must it be with exercise. Stick an aerobics DVD in, or run around the block five times, or swim laps in your pool, or go the gym. Find a way to exercise every single day.
  • Eat out of a side plate: Okay, let’s be completely truthful now: One of the reasons you’re overweight is because you eat too much. Don’t deny this, it will stop you from losing weight. Accept it and know that what seemed like a normal amount of food to you, is too much. So, eat smaller meals – from a side plate and eat six times per day. Ignore your hunger pangs. Your stomach’s been stretched for many years. Fill half your plate with salad and the rest with protein and low GI carbohydrates.
These tips will hold you in good stead to help you lose weight. But there’s one last thing…
