A little purple berry may help keep your blood sugar in check

by , 20 September 2013

According to a recent study, a simple, yet potent berry sprouting in Siberia, Russia, may help keep your blood sugar in check.

The study showed the extract from polyphenol-rich bilberries, could help regulate blood sugar levels in just two weeks!

Balance your blood sugar in two weeks!

A small study published in the Journal of Nutritional Science found the bilberry may offer a drug free solution to all type II diabetics.

The team of British and Danish researchers asked eight men with type II diabetes to spend two weeks taking a placebo or a single bilberry supplement that equated to roughly 50gms of fresh berries.

In just 14 days this antioxidant and polyphenol-rich berry helped the men achieve a level of blood sugar control they hadn’t in years!

Bilberry extract was effective in helping volunteers with postprandial glycaemia. The men who took the extract daily were able to control their insulin levels without resorting to dangerous prescription medication.

For the first time, the study demonstrated that bilberry could be the perfect treatment for high insulin levels.

The good news is you won’t have to fly to Siberia for your bilberry extract. Your local health shop should stock it. If you can’t find it, contact Health Works in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, on 011 325 5169.

One more thing: Bilberry is also very effective for improving eye health and ward off macular degeneration.
