Researchers at the NYU Centre for Brain Health in the US studied 2,000 people between the ages of 55 and 75 who enrolled in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative.

Some of these people had normal cognitive abilities while others had different degrees of cognitive impairment.

They were surveyed and examined every six months for two to three years.

The researchers found that having sleep apnea or snoring increased the likelihood of developing mild cognitive impairment, including memory lapses, and slower speed on cognitive skills, about 12 years earlier than those who don't experience sleep-disordered breathing.

The underlying issue is lack of oxygen...
The researchers also found that people who used a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine, designed to keep airways open during sleep, developed cognitive impairment at the same rate as people who didn't have sleep problems.

Ways to help reduce snoring 
Besides using a CPAP machine, these tips could help you reduce your snoring...
