In a new study out of the University of Maryland, researchers measured the brain activity of healthy 55-85 year-old participants after 30 minutes of moderately intense exercise.

Compared to the days the participants didn't exercise, the results of their memory tests significantly improved with just 30 minutes of exercise.

Using brain imaging equipment, the researchers could actually see the hippocampus in the brain of the participants increase in size after exercise.

Exercise has long term benefits for brain function...
 
In another study out of the University of Iowa, researchers found that the short-term benefits brought on by exercise continue for a long time after a workout. 

They found that after both a single workout and after a 12-week exercise programme, the hippocampus in the participants showed improvement and they similar improvements in memory function.

This is great news because it means you can actually improve your mind in the long term, and prevent dementia, with just half an hour of exercise daily.
