That was two years ago. And 59-year-old “Simpsons” co-creator Sam Simon is still alive and making every effort to stay that way.

It doesn't mean he's naïve as to what's coming. He's already started preparing for when his terminal illness claims his life. And it's what's going to happen to his fortune that concerns him.

He wants his money to go to a good purpose when he can no longer use it. And he's ensuring it goes to children and animal benefits.

Food: Your best line of defence in treating colon cancer

 
Johns Hopkins Medicine says nutrition is one of the best ways to beat cancer, especially in the colon.
 
And while it can be painful to eat and pass stools, it’s essential you give your body the right nutrients to help it keep fighting.
 
Eating brightly coloured fruit and vegetables is number one on the list. These include foods like bell peppers, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, egg plant and purple cabbage.
 
The brighter the colour, the more antioxidants they contain and the better your body’s ability to fight inflammation and invading cells.
 
If you struggle to eat whole foods, add these to your smoothies to reap the same benefits.
 
Another essential food is fibre.

Tip #1: Eat frequently
