Ladies: Put down that fizzy drink or you could end up with endometrial cancer

by , 25 November 2013

Urgent health warning for women: If you love sugary, fizzy drinks, watch out. A new study has revealed that they increase your risk of developing endometrial cancer after menopause by 78%. Here's why…

Doctors may call it a variety of things, womb cancer, uterine cancer or endometrial cancer – but one thing remains certain – with one in 37 women getting it in her lifetime, lowering your risk is imperative.

And it starts, according to researchers at the University of Minnesota, with cutting out fizzy drinks.

What you drink can increase your womb cancer risk as much as 78%!

“The 14-year study involving almost 25,000 women in their 50s and 60s looked into endometrial cancer, which affects the lining of the womb. The participants gave detailed data about what they ate and drank, with around half having fizzy drinks,” reports the Daily Mail.

The result?

Almost 600 developed endometrial cancer.

But why?

According to the researchers, it’s because of how fizzy drinks affect your hormone

This after “studies have shown increasing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages has paralleled the increase in obesity. Obese women tend to have higher levels of oestrogens and insulin than women of normal weight. Increased levels of oestrogens and insulin are established risk factors for endometrial cancer,” explains medicalnewstoday.com.

In addition, too many fizzy drinks also increase your risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Just one more reason to limit your fizzy drink intake and up your coffee intake. Drinking four cups a day has been linked to a 30% reduction in endometrial cancer, adds webMD. And get some exercise, it reduces your risk too.
