The cancer-fighting properties in broccoli
According to well-known physician and author Dr Mercola,
broccoli contains a particularly powerful type of sulforaphane. They say this is what gives the vegetable its
cancer-fighting properties.
It appears that broccoli contains the necessary ingredients to switch on genes that prevent
cancer, and switch off ones that help it spread.
How much broccoli you need to eat to reap the benefits
Duxin Sun of the University of Michigan Comprehensive
Cancer Center led the study published in Clinical
Cancer Research. He explains it involved collecting tissue samples from a large number of men.
What researchers found is that participants who ate broccoli showed hundreds of beneficial changes in cancer-fighting genes. They also noted that participants who ate broccoli three to four times a week were 30% to 50% less likely to develop cancer.
The findings suggested that broccoli can best prevent breast and
prostate cancer – two of the world’s ten most common cancers.
What’s most impressive is that you don’t have to make that drastic of a diet change to reap these benefits!

Is broccoli the right choice for you?
Many doctors believe that foods (especially vegetables) are a smarter choice to treat serious health challenges than drugs. However, even though vegetables are one of the healthiest food categories on the planet, not all vegetables are beneficial for everyone…
A nutrition test performed by a dietician or nutritionist will be able to determine if broccoli is a good choice for you. One of the most serious mistakes is for a protein type to consume too many dark green vegetables. This tends to over-alkaline your system and will ultimately worsen your health. If you’re a protein type, that is.
Other vegetables from the broccoli family (such as cauliflower and Brussel sprouts) can also have a similar effect.
Dr Mercola urges that it’s important you understand your body. The best way to do this is to learn your nutritional type. This way, you’ll be able to determine which foods are ideal for you. When you eat properly for your nutritional type, you’ll experience increased energy and improved emotional well-being, and optimised overall health.
