At an American Association for Cancer Research conference recently, scientists presented the results of three research projects aimed at treating skin cancer.

Two of the studies were conducted on mice and the third was a laboratory study using human skin cells.

The active ingredients that were tested, and showed great potential for stopping cancer in its tracks were perillyl alcohol which is found in tart cherries and the peel of citrus fruits, as well as polyphenols found in grapes and pomegranate fruit.

While these studies looked at skin cancer, polyphenols in fruit, nuts and veggies have long been studied for their cancer fighting potential.

What are polyphenols and how do they fight cancer?
Polyphenols are tiny nutrients present in some plants. They’re rich in antioxidants, which help fight cancer, treat obesity, high blood sugar, heart problems, neurodegenerative diseases and digestive issues.
