If you have arthritis and joint pain, don't eat these foods!
If you suffer from arthritis and joint pain, there are tons of reasons to clean up your diet…

You see, arthritis can cause pain, swelling and stiffness in your joints. And because extra kilos put added pressure on your joints - potentially intensifying symptoms and leading to the deterioration of your joints in the long run - you should make it your goal to maintain a healthy weight.

You should avoid foods that trigger inflammation, are high in cholesterol and contain empty calories that can lead to weight gain in order to keep arthritis and joint pain at bay. Two examples of such foods are soft drinks and processed foods. Read on to learn why you shouldn't consume them if you have arthritis and joint pain.

Soft drinks
Studies have linked soft drinks to a host of health problems, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, depression and tooth erosion. The reason? These drinks are chockfull of sugar – nearly three tablespoons per can! Unfortunately, diet soft drinks aren’t much better because they contain artificial sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame, which research has also linked to health problems. “I wouldn’t drink a lot of soda if you have arthritis,” says Marie Jhin, a board-certified dermatologist in the Bay Area in the United States. To wean yourself off these sugary drinks, start watering them down.

Processed foods
Manufactured products such as chips, frozen pizza, store-bought baked goods, flavoured coffee creamers and canned frosting are brimming with sugar, salt and preservatives. One study published in BMJ Open revealed that a shocking 60% of calories in the average American’s diet come from “ultra-processed” foods that are packed with harmful additives like emulsifiers and hydrogenated oils. According to Marcy O’Koon Moss, senior director of consumer health at the Arthritis Foundation, these highly processed foods can wreak havoc on your joints. “If you minimise processed foods, that covers a lot of bases,” she says.
Make sure you avoid soft drinks and processed foods to manage arthritis and joint pain.
