Whether you're trying to lose 20 kg or the last 2 kg, losing weight is easier said than done. One of the biggest reasons for this is that most low-calorie diets are unreasonable and therefore unsustainable. Thankfully, we know of a couple of weight loss foods that will help you drop fat while keeping you satiated…

“For one, fibre-packed foods are a great way to fill up and control hunger, manage blood glucose levels and promote gastrointestinal health,” says Katherine Zeratsky, a registered dietician from the Mayo Clinic. “Fruits and veggies are rich in fibre and mostly water, which makes them heavy an keeps you fuller longer, while being low in calories,” she adds.

Here are four weight loss foods that will fill you up and provide a healthy dose of nutrients. Don't worry - their benefits outweigh their caloric impact!

#1: Quinoa
Quinoa is a special kind of grain because it’s a complete source of protein (about 7 g per serving) and is chockfull of fibre (about 6 g per serving). Dietary fibre binds to fat and cholesterol and, in turn, helps your body absorb less of the two. What’s more, this ancient grain is a good source of vitamin B12, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and eight essential amino acids.
 
#2: Greens
Greens like spinach, kale and broccoli are rich in a variety nutrients, including vitamins A, C, E and K, calcium, iron, copper, manganese and many others. Because greens are so low in calories, you can eat many cups of them. Spinach in particular is a top weight loss food because it contains green leaf membranes called thylakoids, which research suggests curbs hunger and promotes healthy eating habits.

#3: Berries
Berries like blueberries, blackberries and strawberries are one of the best weight loss foods because they add a burst of nutrients and flavour to otherwise lacklustre meals without adding many calories. Berries are also loaded with antioxidants and fibre, and will effectively satisfy your sugar cravings will curving your overall caloric intake by slowing digestion and the absorption of lactose.
 
#4: Nuts
Nuts are a fantastic weight loss food – but only if you eat them in moderate. Almonds, walnuts and Brazil nuts are brimming with fibre and heart-healthy fat, which helps keep your hunger levels in check. However, they’re very caloric, so make sure you control your portions!
