#2: Get enough protein
Studies have shown that foods high in protein, such as chicken, dish, tofu, lentils and low-fat dairy, can boost satiety. In other words, it keeps you full for longer, which helps curb snacking and prevents overeating at the next meal. Aim to eat protein with every meal, especially breakfast, to prevent the urge to snack throughout the day.
 
#3: Eat proper portions
Most people eat too much, which is a big no-no if you’re trying to lose weight. Here are simple guidelines for how much you should be eating of the most common diet foods:
  • Meat, poultry and fish: 85 g (palm of your hand)
  • Cheese: 30 g (one thumb)
  • Butter or oil: ½ tsp (one fingertip)
  • Cereal or popcorn: 1 cup (two cupped hands)
  • Mixed nuts: ¼ cup (one layer one your palm)
