Foot fungus - a spring-time ailment you haven't thought about…

by , 26 September 2013

What's not to love about spring? But with those strappy sandals, shorts and t-shirts comes a health danger you need to pay attention to: Foot fungus…

“Depending on the kind of shoes you wear, you could find yourself with a nasty, soil-borne fungal infection that could leave your feet in an unappealing – and painful – state” this spring, reports Rodale.

This after researchers in India found that people who wear plastic-foam shoes are more susceptible to nasty foot fungus infections.

And it makes sense when you think about it. After all, fungus loves damp, warm conditions – and that’s exactly what the plastic shoes, foam slops and clogs you wear without socks create.

Do you have foot fungus? Here’s how to know…

Common symptoms of foot fungus ailments like Athlete’s Foot include:

  • Peeling, cracking, and scaling of the feet
  • Redness, blisters, or softening and breaking down of the skin
  • Itching, burning, or both, reports WebMD.

If this sounds familiar, skip the anti-bacterial, over-the-counter medication and try Mother Nature’s remedy instead…

An all-natural treatment for foot fungus

According to Nutrition & Healing ‘s Kerry Bone, “numerous studies have shown that local application of tea tree oil can be very effective against fungal infections of both the nails and skin.”

The reason?

As we explain here, it’s all thanks to tea tree oil’s natural antiseptic properties. But be warned, says Dr Weil, it’s not an instant solution.

To use it, he advises you “paint the oil on affected nails twice a day for at least two months. The nail has to grow out for the fungus to be eradicated, so you may not see results for a year.”

Don’t let foot fungus be the reason you hide your toes this spring. Use tea tree oil to treat it at the first sign…
