Stop cardiovascular disease in its tracks with aged garlic extract
Aged garlic extract is well-known for its benefits for the heart health, blood pressure, cholesterol and the immune system. It's also been shown to have benefits for skin and hair.

As it turns out, this common supplement can also help prevent the progression of cardiovascular disease by reversing the build-up of deadly plaque in the arteries, according to a new study.

The study, conducted by the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-University of California-Los Angles Medical Center, found a reduction in the amount of ‘soft plaque' in the arteries of metabolic syndrome patients who took aged garlic extract. For their study, the team of researchers looked at 55 patients with metabolic disease – characterised by obesity, hypertension, and other cardiovascular disease risk factors – between the ages of 40 and 75. Each of the patients underwent screening at the beginning of the study to measure plaque build-up in their arteries.

The French are renowned for their high fat diet.

Following their evaluation, each patient was given either a dose of 2,400 mg of aged garlic extract or a placebo every day. After one year, the results showed that the patients who’d taken the aged garlic supplement slowed total plaque accumulation by an impressive 90% as well as reduced soft plaque build-up, which can slash the risk of cardiovascular disease.
 
“This study is another demonstration of the benefits of this supplement in reducing the accumulation of soft plaque and preventing the formation of new plaque in the arteries, which can cause heart disease,” said lead researcher Dr Matthew J Budoff. “We’ve completed four randomised studies and they’ve led us to conclude that aged garlic extract can help slow the progression of atherosclerosis and reverse the early stages of heart disease,” he added.
