If you intend to be on this earth for a long time, taking care of yourself should be on top of your priority list. I live by the words, “I need to take care of myself the way I care for the people I love”.

The personal self-love tips I'm providing you with today will help you do just that. By following them, you'll be able to think more clearly, handle frustration better, and sleep through the night. Over time, you'll notice how they'll tweak your daily habits and perspective!

#1: Acknowledge who you are
Step number one: Remember that it’s selfish to not look after yourself. It’s absolutely critical for your happiness and well-being. You have limits, and they’re crucial to help you honour your health. You have needs, and deserve rest, affection, grace and sustenance just like everybody else. And, you have dreams, and are worthy of the time it takes to pursue what makes your heart come alive.
 
#2: Treat yourself regularly
When last did you gift yourself something special? Each week, choose something that’ll add to your life, whether it’s a new water bottle to encourage hydration, or a beautiful new journal to record your goals and dreams. A gift doesn’t have to be something material, though – it can even be an extra hour of sleep or exercise. If nothing else, give yourself a moment: We all need a moment of grace, acceptance and forgive every now and then.

#3: Restore yourself
Think back to your childhood. What made you really happy back then? Was it listening to the rain at night? Was it the smell of a library book? Maybe it was swimming in the ocean, or walking barefoot on the grass. Try to recreate those experiences of simple pleasure. Don’t underestimate how incredible reliving these joyful moments can be.
 
#4: Use your voice
Choose a trusted soul like a partner or best friend and voice the unspeakable. “I need help”, “I’m afraid”, or “I haven’t felt like myself in a while”. There’s something about voicing the burden that makes it lighter. Give those close to you a chance to support you. You’ll be surprised at the heavy weight it’ll lift off your shoulders.
 
#5: Cut pressuring yourself
What are you telling yourself about your appearance? What are you telling yourself about your long to-do list? What are you telling yourself about reaching your dreams? Try setting more realistic expectations. Lower the bar and let something go. Ban the word “should” immediately. And, when you get into bed tonight, ask yourself, “did I try my best?”. If the answer is yes, that’s enough. It’s more than enough.
 
#6: Notice the greatness in yourself
Take a moment to recognise any tough obstacles you’ve overcome or hard lessons you’ve learned. Think about how far you’ve come. Then, try to see yourself through the eyes of someone who loves you. They don’t see failings, mistakes and imperfections. They see love and never-failing love. Make sure you see that too.
