Five plants with super-soothing properties that can help heal skin disorders
If the products in your skincare routine contain ingredients that you can't even pronounce, it's time to toss them!

While science has advanced over the years, natural remedies for healthy skin still endure. These ancient skincare remedies that have been passed down from generation to generation can massively improve your skin health

The best part? You don't need to look further than your kitchen for natural skin disorder treatments. Read on for five skin-loving plants that pack impressive detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties!

Five plants that treat skin disorders

#1: Aloe
Aloe, a member of the cactus family of plants, tops the list. One study conducted by researchers at the University of Maryland found that glycoproteins and polysaccharide, two compounds found in aloe, are excellent for calming inflammation. Cut the leaves of an aloe plant and use the cooling, oh-so-soothing gel found inside them to facilitate skin healing.

#2: Cumin
Cumin is loaded with phytochemicals that contain antioxidant, carminative and anti-flatulent powers, which help to protect your skin from internal and environmental damage by stimulating the regeneration and boosting the health of your skin cells.

#3: Basil
Basil is well-known for its fantastic acne-healing properties. Tulsi, another name for the medicinal herb, staves off a type of bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes and keeps breakouts of all sorts at bay.

#4: Coriander
Coriander is full of free radical-fighting antioxidants, skin-boosting vitamin C and complexion-clearing minerals. What’s more, it offers anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal and detoxifying benefits.

#5: Neem
Last but not least is neem – a plant known for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties. This plant works well on any skin type but is especially beneficial for acne-prone and oily skin.

Get your DIY on with this purifying basil face wash

Ready to incorporate plants into your skincare routine? Here’s a great DIY face wash recipe, which you can use in two different ways, to get you started.

You’ll need:
  • 20-30 fresh basil leaves
  • Organic plain yoghurt
  • Distilled water

What to do:
In a bowl, use a wooden spoon (or sub with a mortar and pestle) and crush the fresh basil leaves so that the natural oils are released. This is the basil paste. You can use this with water as a face wash, applying to the face and allowing to sit for five or so minutes, once every other day. Rinse with tepid water.

It’s as simple as that!
