Salmon oil can help older people with memory problems boost their brainpower
Consuming certain nutrients is key to good mental and physical health. Your brain requires nutrients just like your heart, lungs and muscles do. But which nutrient is particularly important to keep your grey matter healthy and happy?

According to a new MIDAS study, DHA-rich salmon oil can help older people with memory problems boost their brainpower. In the study, healthy people with mild memory deficits of events in their past-life had improved memory after just six months of consuming salmon oil!

The study also found that DHA has the most benefit for people with existing memory problems, especially when they're dealing with mental or physical stress. Keep reading for the full scoop...

Study links salmon oil consumption to boosted brainpower

To reach their findings, researchers behind the study looked at 485 healthy elderly people who reported memory problems. The researchers carried out memory tests on each of these people and then split them into two groups – one group took salmon oil supplements and the other took a placebo every day for 24 weeks.

After the study period, the researchers carried out memory tests again. They noted that those in the salmon oil group had “significant improvements” in memory test scores compared with those in the placebo group. The researchers attributed the brain-boosting benefits of salmon oil to its high dose of DHA.

This group of nutrients is not only the answer to boosting your mood... Preventing Alzheimer's and dementia... It's also 8 TIMES MORE EFFECTIVE than an Anti-Depressant!...

Nature’s secret to optimum mental health...
  • Protects you from depression and other mood disorders including schizophrenia.
  • Improves memory and learning. (In fact, studies show kids who take Omega 3 supplements do better at school, score higher in tests and have fewer behavioural issues than those who don’t.)
  • Fights age-related memory loss and senior moments synonymous with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
  • And protects against stress-related job burnout.

And it’s all thanks to the “Omega 3 Effect”

“It appears that benefits of DHA are best observed during ageing when there’s some mild cognitive impairment or memory complaint or perhaps when a person is exposed to certain chronic physical or mental stressors,” reads the study, which was published in the journal Prostaglandins Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids.

The best dietary sources of DHA include oily fish and white fish

Because your body can’t produce DHA on its own, you need to consume dietary sources of this fatty acid. Foods rich in DHA include oily fish like sardines, mackerel and salmon as well as white fish like cod and haddock.

However, two thirds of us never eat oily fish, which is why a daily salmon oil supplement is your best bet to get a daily dose of DHA. You can buy salmon oil online or at any pharmacy.
