To reach their findings, researchers behind the study looked at 485 healthy elderly people who reported memory problems. The researchers carried out memory tests on each of these people and then split them into two groups – one group took salmon oil supplements and the other took a placebo every day for 24 weeks.
After the study period, the researchers carried out memory tests again. They noted that those in the salmon oil group had “significant improvements” in memory test scores compared with those in the placebo group. The researchers attributed the brain-boosting benefits of salmon oil to its high dose of DHA.
