Northumbria University study finds that rosemary essential oil can help improve your memory

Researchers from Northumbria University in the UK revealed the memory-enhancing benefits of rosemary essential oil in a recent study.

To reach their findings, they looked at 40 children between ages 10 and 11. They found that children working in a room with the scent of rosemary scored 5% to 7% better on memory tests. Researchers concluded that the results hold true for adults as well.

The terpene levels in rosemary essential oil give it its memory-boosting benefits

So how exactly does rosemary essential oil work in your brain?

According to Dr Mariza Snyder, author of The Matcha Miracle, the terpene levels in the oil enter your bloodstream and directly affect your body – easily crossing your blood-brain barrier.

“Rosemary has the ability to inhibit the enzymes that break down acetylcholine in the brain, allowing more to remain and aid the brain in its function. Rosemary is one of my favourite ways to improve my daily focus without the worry of side effects or putting unnatural substances into my body,” she explained.

Rosemary essential oil is available at your local pharmacy or health store

You’ll find rosemary essential oil at all pharmacies and health stores. You can also purchase rosemary in other forms, including fresh, dried, as a tea, powdered in capsules, as a tincture or liquid extract.
